Bring Back Avengers Academy: Marvel's Voices

The Issue

At Midnight EST on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Avengers Academy: Marvel’s Voices, a fantastic, beloved comic on the Marvel Unlimited app, came to an abrupt, clearly unplanned end. Head writer Anthony Oliveira confirmed it on social media.

To say this cancellation devastated me would be an understatement. This comic was so, so important to me. It was one of my biggest sources of joy throughout the year, seeing the action, the humor, the heart, and the wonderful storytelling. To see it just abruptly stop is just heartbreaking to me. In particular, I saw so much of myself in Shela Sexton; not only in terms of being trans, but just her struggles and her personality. She's a fantastic character I want to see more of.

It’s clear from reading that Anthony and his crew had a lot of stories to tell. They had planned so much for nearly a year at this point. The story was never meant to end like this and, based on the timing, many people are fearing the worst: that this cancellation was motivated by conservative viewpoints at Disney. The company has been drifting right-wing for a while (blocking Pixar from having gay rep in recent projects and more recently leaving Jimmy Kimmel in limbo for a week), but it's clear that it's becoming too much.

Disney. Marvel. Grow a backbone against the people in power. Anthony Oliveira and his wonderful crew, including Ballie Rosenlund, Carola Borelli, Pablo Collar, KJ Diaz, Ruth Redmond, Ariana Maher, and Joe Caramagna, among others, have many great stories they want to tell and, in times like this, these stories NEED to be told. Avengers Academy deserves to have a longer run, even on the off chance its cancellation wasn't fueled by conservatism.
