Bring Back AP Calculus BC!

The Issue

Who is impacted?

To me, the students most affected by this absence are those of us whose ambitions for STEM are not just future plans but vital parts of who we are. I have seen that when a student who loves engineering faces a wall in their own school, it creates frustration that feels very personal. We watch as the aspiring physicist who enjoys solving complex problems struggles because their passion is not matched by a curriculum that challenges their talent. Similarly, the future programmer, driven to innovate, finds a curriculum that stops just as the most important math begins. When you understand that your school can't satisfy your desire to learn, it doesn't just make you anxious for college, it makes you feel like you're already falling behind.

What is at stake?

What is at stake is the essence of academic excellence at our school. When someone is allowed to follow a subject they love, it keeps them engaged. But when that opportunity comes with a challenge that tests their skills, the work itself becomes a source of passion. Restoring AP Calculus BC is also a humanitarian effort for our student body. It’s about working to support our community. When we know our school is committed to helping us reach our full potential, especially at this critical level, we become more dedicated and motivated in all our work. This way, we can fulfill our responsibilities as students and improve our school's reputation for those who come after us.

Why is now the time to act?

The reason I believe now is the time to act is that we are the students we've been waiting for. For years, the story has been that no one wants this class, but I see a different reality, a generation of students who are not just ready for the challenge but actively seeking it. If we let this moment pass, we accept a story that doesn't reflect who we are. However, if we combine our individual desires with our collective action, we can spark a change that will make this effort seem easy in hindsight. By signing this, you are doing more than just supporting a class; you are creating an immediate and positive change for our school. This gives us all the chance to not only feel ready for our futures but to truly enjoy pursuing them.
