Growing up, my fondest memories were those spent gliding across the cool, smooth surface of the ice rink. Frios was more than just a place for leisure; it was a hub of community spirit, a space where families gathered, children laughed and learned, and friendships were forged. Ever since Frios closed its doors, the Rio Grande Valley has felt its absence acutely.

The residents of the RGV have a unique hunger for diverse recreational activities. Our community thrives on experiences that bring us together, and ice skating offered just that. It was not only a source of entertainment but also provided a healthy, active outlet for individuals of all ages, from curious kids to seasoned skaters.

The closure of Frios left a void. Our children miss out on the joys and challenges of learning to skate. Events like birthday parties and group outings have lost a beloved venue. What’s more, skating rinks contribute to the local economy by creating jobs and boosting local businesses.

By bringing an ice skating rink back to the RGV, we invest in our community’s well-being, our children’s future, and the health of our local economy.
