It’s definitely amazing that Days of Our Lives is celebrating 15,000 episodes but it’s also bittersweet because Arianne Zucker isn’t there.
Look how light hearted and fun it seems there. Victoria Konefal (Ciara) is even back to celebrate.
I like to think that Arianne’s visits to HR definitely improved the work environment. It’s unfortunate that she sacrificed herself. It’s unfortunate that a resolution hasn’t been reached.
All of this good positive PR is great for the show. It’s beckoning the viewer to stick around and enjoy the storylines intertwined with the 15,000 episode and show anniversary in November.
They don’t want their decision to present one offer to Arianne, which resulted in her refusal to take it, to result in a loss of viewership.
Corday did say he offered her a raise in pay and his not wanting to take a counter offer didn’t constitute retaliation.
She didn’t accept his offer and he didn’t accept hers. There was no negotiating.
Albert Alaar said she was angling for a raise in a time of cutbacks and more influence on the show.
Taking a look at the character of Nicole in the past two years.. you can actually see that her role/character were diminished.
The pregnancy story’s main purpose was to make Eric a father. Last September and October Ari barely aired. I would’ve liked to see more emphasis on the risky pregnancy not the baby switch aftermath. But that clearly wasn’t their focus.
They tape two weeks in one. Two episodes a day. They don’t take the time to really flesh out and present stories with much meaning. The focus is on staying within budget. As a result there have been numerous ongoing storylines without much resolution. And they have been prone to making more mistakes as well with the history and continuity.
Arianne was the last leading lady standing and with her gone.. where do they or can they go?
They’ve made a mistake not holding onto her. They don’t think her lose will matter much probably because the majority of their fan base is older and will keep tuning in out of habit or loyalty.
But what about people like me and maybe you.. that tune in primarily to see Nicole?
Don’t we matter? Don’t they see that when she is gone so are we?
One person may not make this show.. but this one person is why we tune in.
I don’t tune in on days that Nicole isn’t on anymore. It’s the way I choose to protest Arianne’s unfortunate departure.
I can catch up on other storylines if I want to through spoilers or on episodes in which Nicole is in because soap operas are designed to constantly catch viewers up that are either new or who are infrequent viewers.. that’s essentially why characters recall past events.
So if you feel inclined too please join me in this silent protest. Every stream matters to them but apparently not every actress.
I stand with Ari!
