Bring a USA BMX sanctioned track back to Corpus Christi

The Issue

We are not just advocating for the reopening of a BMX track- we are working to restore access to a cherished sport for families and individuals across all of South Texas! Currently, there are no USA BMX sanctioned tracks south of San Antonio and we believe that together, we can change this.

We propose collaborating with the city to reopen STX BMX Raceway, which was alive and running from 2012 to 2017 at Salinas City Park off of Greenwood. Though it now sits abandoned, we are confident that with community support, we can restore it and have it operational by Summer 2025.

To effectively present our case to the City Council, we need to demonstrate community backing. Your signature on this petition will help us show the strong support for bringing this rewarding sport back to Corpus Christi and to the entire South Texas region.

For those who may not be familiar with BMX racing but still want to show support, we greatly appreciate you! Here’s a brief overview to help you understand what makes it so special.

BMX, or Bicycle Motocross, is an individual sport that captures the spirit of competition while fostering a strong sense of community and teamwork. Riders race against their peers on specially designed bikes on a track featuring a starting gate, jumps, and turns, showcasing their speed, skill, and agility.

The sport began in the late 1970s in Southern California and was officially introduced to the Olympic Games in 2008 at the Beijing Summer Olympics. Since then, it has gained global recognition and elevated the profile of BMX racing around the world.

BMX encourages not only individual achievement but also camaraderie among riders, creating a supportive environment where participants cheer for one another and experience the excitement of competition together. Whether on or off of the track, BMX is about personal progression along with building lasting friendships.

Corpus Christi was once a home for BMX racing, where beginners were welcome to try out the sport and ambitious riders could work on their skills. BMX racing is often summed up by the famous saying, "nobody sits the bench," highlighting its inclusive nature. This sport truly welcomes participants of all ages, with riders starting as young as 3 years old and continuing all the way to grandparents.

Large events, such as State and Gold Cup Qualifier races, drew competitors from other cities, filling our hotels and boosting the local economy. Spectators gathered to share in the excitement, creating lasting memories that many still cherish today. Sadly, since the track closed, our community has experienced a significant loss, but we are determined to revive that spirit.

Please sign this petition to help us bring a BMX track back to our city. Together, we can reignite the energy and excitement we once had. Thank you for standing with us!
