Bring a keifers to flowood
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Flowood and surrounding communities, formally request the establishment of a Keifer’s Greek Restaurant within our city.
In recent years, nearly all new restaurants in Flowood have been large national chains, with the majority focused on chicken-based fast food. The concentration of these restaurants has become so excessive that the area is commonly referred to by residents as “Chicken Lane.” This lack of culinary diversity has reduced local dining quality and limited meaningful options for residents seeking non–fast food experiences.
There is clear evidence that Flowood residents support non-chain, sit-down dining establishments. Soulshine Pizza, one of the only truly local-style restaurants in the area, remains consistently busy, demonstrating strong community demand for higher-quality, non-fast food dining. Amerigo, also sees consistent traffic, further proving that residents are willing to support restaurants that offer a different experience than fast food chains. Outside of these few examples, most other options are either chain restaurants or poorly maintained establishments.
Flowood also faces declining use and upkeep of key community amenities. Our public park is seeing reduced attendance, the local arcade is cramped and overpriced for the experience offered, and the bowling alley has largely been neglected and forgotten. A Keifer’s could help revitalize interest in the area and encourage city leaders and developers to invest in improving nearby entertainment and community spaces, for which Flowood has ample available space for growth that’s more than just another neighborhood.
Additionally, Flowood has seen recent residential development, and a Keifer’s location would be ideally situated near the new neighborhood. The presence of a respected, sit-down restaurant would increase the attractiveness and long-term value of these new homes, encouraging further growth and community investment.
Keifer’s is also widely recognized for its outdoor patio dining experience. Flowood currently lacks a quality outdoor dining option. Soulshine’s outdoor area is poorly maintained with most of the people on the patio just smoking. A Keifer’s patio would provide a unique, high-quality gathering space not currently available in our city.
We respectfully urge city officials, developers, and business stakeholders to seriously consider this request in the interest of improving dining quality, economic development, and overall community life in Flowood.
