Petition for a Drift & Motorsport Venue in Gympie

Gympie has a huge and growing car community—from show cars to drift cars, rally cars, and street builds. But right now, there is nowhere locally for people to safely enjoy them.

We recently saw what happens when motorsport comes to town with the Gympie Rally—the whole place came alive. People showed up, businesses were busy, and the atmosphere was unreal. It proved just how much interest there is in events like this.

The problem is, there is still no dedicated space in Gympie for drift or general motorsport use. While Mother Mountain Speedway caters well to speedway and rally-style racing, it doesn’t support drifting or casual performance car events.

A lot of locals currently travel to Queensland Raceway just to get that experience—whether it’s the Friday night “play nights” or the seasonal Matsuri events.

If you’ve ever been, you know exactly how good they are—fun, safe, well-run, and always a great crowd. Events like that would be huge for Gympie and would bring the same energy, excitement, and community spirit here.

Why Gympie needs this:

-Gives people a safe and legal place to drive their cars

-Helps reduce street driving and hooning

-Brings in crowds, tourism, and money to local businesses

-Creates a strong community vibe and regular events

-Gives young people something positive to be part of

This could be as simple as:

-A dedicated drift/event space, or

-Regular “play nights” or event weekends a few times a year

Gympie has the people, the passion, and we’ve already seen the support—now we just need a place to make it happen.
