The Issue

As a dog owner in Greenville, I've always dreamed of having a safe and welcoming place where my dog, along with others in our community, can run, play, and socialize. After experiencing the joy and sense of community that dog parks bring, I firmly believe that Greenville deserves one of its own. Many of my fellow neighbors share this sentiment, expressing their enthusiasm for a space that caters not just to our dogs but also accommodates the needs of owners.

A downtown dog park in Greenville would bring countless benefits. It would act as a safe haven for our furry friends, offering them space to exercise off-leash, which is crucial for their health and well-being. Additionally, it would allow dogs to socialize, reducing behavioral problems and anxiety associated with isolation. For owners, it's an opportunity to mingle, share experiences, and foster a stronger sense of community.

We envision a dog park with essential features such as separate areas for big and small dogs to ensure safety, ample shade for comfort, benches for relaxation, and water fountains for hydration. These facilities would make the park not just a recreational spot but a community hub where relationships are built, and a healthier lifestyle is promoted.

My constituents are welcome to contact me directly on this issue. As an update, you are welcome to share that the City already has a sizable dog park in Conestee Park. At one time there was a dog park in Cleveland park but it was relocated to Conestee at the request of the community. Best regards, Dorothy Dowe City Councilmember Note: The Change.org Civic Engagement Team reaches out to decision makers to let them know about petitions in their community and to help facilitate engagement with supporters. This was an email response we received from Councilmember Dowe regarding the petition on brining a dog park to downtown Greenville.
