Bridgewater, MA Stands AGAINST proposed DEI Resolution

The Issue

Oppose Resolution R-FY25-007 -  Petitioned by Bridgewater Residents for Action

We, the undersigned residents of Bridgewater, MA, strongly oppose Resolution R-FY25-007: A Resolution Affirming Bridgewater as a Welcoming Community for All. This resolution was introduced at the Town Council meeting on February 18, 2025, and is unnecessary, does not solve any real problem, and does not reflect the will of the majority of our community.

Bridgewater is already a welcoming community—there is no evidence of systemic discrimination requiring this resolution. Furthermore, Massachusetts law already protects against discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations, and education. This resolution does not add any new rights or protections.

This resolution sets a dangerous precedent for future policies and creates legal risks by introducing vague, undefined obligations that could lead to future issues for the town on the local and Federal level.

Instead of passing symbolic resolutions with no real impact, the people of Bridgewater demand action from their elected leaders. We do not want empty words—we want real leadership that moves our town forward through meaningful legislation and initiatives.

We call on the Town Council to prioritize real action over symbolism.

We want our town council representatives to focus on issues that directly impact the lives of all Bridgewater residents, including but not limited to:

-Investment in infrastructure improvements to enhance roads, water, public spaces, and town services

-Support for local businesses

-Responsible economic development that does not burden our town’s resources and ensures a strong and thriving community

-Public safety initiatives that protect and serve all residents

Resolution R-FY25-007 is not leadership. Leadership is action. Leadership is addressing real issues with solutions.

Again, we are concerned that this resolution sets a dangerous precedent for future policies and creates legal risks by introducing vague, undefined obligations that could lead to future issues for the town.

We urge the Town Council to vote NO on this resolution and to listen to the voices of Bridgewater residents. Our town deserves real governance, not performative politics.
