The Issue
The goal of this petition is for Bridget's mom and dad to let her get Snapchat. Now, I know that you may be skeptical on letting her have this app, but here are the reasons why it would be really good for her to have it. First off, Snapchat has many less bugs than Instagram does. It is a lot easier to send pictures/videos and have FaceTime calls on Snapchat than it is on Instagram. An example of a bug on Instagram, is that every time someone sends a picture, there is a possibility that it could take a week before you actually see it. Pictures and videos and calls are what helps us feel connected during this pandemic. There are also built-in games that you can play with your friends on Snapchat, which is a feature Instagram does not have. Since Instagram's main purpose is just to post pictures, the messaging features are very boring and slow. However, on Snapchat, you can customize your own Bitmoji (which is like a cartoon version of you that you can have as a profile picture type of thing) which your friends can see, custom emojis, games. You may say "why not just message somewhere else" but the thing is not everyone has an iPhone or even a phone number to begin with and inclusivity is important in our friend group. Another reason Snapchat would be useful is because not everyone has Instagram. She will easily be able to message any classmate that maybe doesn't have Instagram. Almost ALL of the students in our grade have Snapchat and it is good to communicate with them if we have questions about class. It common that people have Snapchat and not Instagram.
Snapchat is not an unsafe app. There are many privacy settings and only people who you CHOOSE can contact you. If someone tries friending you but you deny their friend request, they are not able to contact you in ANY form. And it is extremely easy to block someone. I think that Snapchat is even safer than Instagram in some ways, because on Instagram, anyone can message you. However that is not the case on Snapchat.
