Where we are now….

 Now that you’ve had an opportunity to see how the Bridge Home No Kill Shelter grew from a few fosters with a shared passion for helping animals find caring homes they deserve... to a continued, evolving vision for how to accomplish said passion over a 20+ year time frame, it’s time to share what is happening now...

 Just to get caught up, Regina (Bridge Home founder) had her fall and broke her knee in February. While she was working on her rehab, COVID hit. During that time, Regina remained in constant contact with the shelter, took calls and even signed checks from her hospital bed!

 Regina was able to return home in early April, but she still could not stand without assistance and she also faced the same COVID restrictions as the rest of us. Once her knee brace was off, she recovered quickly and has been able to get around almost as well as before her fall. 

 During her physical absence, several volunteers and board members stepped up along with the employees to keep the place running. Regina was anxious to get back, but she knew she wouldn’t be able to resume the 6-7 days per week schedule she had before. Everyone was in agreement that the Bridge Home would need a manager to assume many of the responsibilities that Regina had performed since the rescue was founded.

 This is where the shared vision collapses…

 While Regina was anxious to hire a new manager to handle the daily tasks so she could focus on her duties as president. Regina wished to continue guiding the organization she founded, working with donors and volunteers. However, the current board had another idea.

 The current board had meeting and discussed future plans without bothering to include the founder and president. The summer of 2020 passes with little communication between Regina and the board. In August, the board held a meeting (again without Regina) to discuss her removal as president.

 In the middle of September, Regina received a notice from the board that she had been removed. Regina immediately had her attorney notify the board that she contends she is still the president and that the ouster was not conducted according to the founding bylaws in place. She expressed interest in working with the board to find a resolution to this. In response, the board removed her access to the rescue’s bank account and scheduled a follow up meeting to “cure” the handling of her summary termination.

 The next board meeting to further Regina’s ouster will be 6:00 PM Monday October 26th at the shelter. While Regina has been the one constant piece from concept to concrete, the Bridge Home has always been more than one person (or board). It has always depended on the volunteers, donors and supporters. Without all of them, none of this would be here.
 
 This is where YOU get to step in. Should Regina be removed by a group that has been involved with the Bridge Home for three years or less, or should Regina remain as the soul of the shelter helping guide it along with a new manager to the next level?
