Equal Treatment in the Workplace

The Issue

My letter to political officials:

"Legal workplace discrimination needs to be addressed. People (such as myself) with colored hair, piercings, and tattoos are looked at and immediately judged based on our appearance and are told we can't have certain jobs based on that, unless we completely change who we are. That's discrimination, and it's legal, and it 100% shouldn't be. How is that an "equal employment opportunity?" People who have colored hair, piercings, and tattoos are no less qualified to work in a professional setting, or any setting for that matter, than someone with natural hair colors, no piercings, and no tattoos. People like us deserve to have all the same opportunities as everyone else does, but we don't, because of how we look. We shouldn't have to sacrifice who we are just for a job. It's wrong, yet it's expected. We are looked at in such a negative way in comparison to someone who looks nothing like us. Someone who looks "normal." We are normal. We are just as normal, just as capable, and just as human as everybody else. I'm pushing for a change in the working world. To end this kind of discrimination once and for all. I know you're probably incredibly busy, and may not view this issue as an important one, but it very much is, and I would like to hear back from you and hear what (if anything) you can do to help to make a change."
