Breathe Life into Statesville's Historic Downtown with Painted Windows

The Issue

My name is Rachel Gaitin I'm a proud resident and business owner, in Downtown Statesville, NC. In the aim to spread art across our community and to encourage more diverse window displays, I am advocating for the local authorities to allow all businesses to present seasonal or temporary painted window displays.

This action is not solely about enriching our business aesthetics, but it's also about adding vibrance and bringing forth an artistic perspective to our thriving community. Yet currently, the restrictions set in place hinder us from expressing creativity, as temporary and painted window displays are not widely permitted.

Numerous cities around the world recognize the importance and value of street art and its positive impact on the local economy. As per Americana for the Arts, artistic displays can induce significant economic benefits, contributing as much as $764 billion to the U.S. economy annually (source: U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and the National Endowment for the Arts).

By allowing artistic window displays, Statesville will be presenting itself as a vibrant, inclusive, and creative city. This initiative will not just enhance the city’s charm but will also offer a platform for local artists, broaden business owners' means of expression, and can even enhance the overall economy.

In this light, we urge the city ordinance to reconsider and modify its approach towards seasonal and temporary painted window displays. Your signature can help transform Statesville into a more dynamic and expressive city. Sign our petition. Let art blossom in every corner of our city.
