Breast Awareness at School

The Issue

Hi everyone, thank you for looking.

I was unsure whether or not to start this. But I really think Breast Awareness should be introduced into secondary schools/Colleges and Universities. Because as a 34 year old with Breast Cancer, I can honestly say I don’t, and still don’t have a clue how to check my breasts.

I personally think that this is a very strong life experience that EVERYONE should be AWARE off, and but setting up a petition hopefully the government will realise how many early diagnoses and deaths this could prevent.

My story...

Well.... It’s been a hell of a 3 months, but I’m coming out so much stronger than before with everyone’s support, and also my rock Andrew. I am and becoming a very positive person towards this to fight it .

Andrew didn’t want me to put anything on Facebook. But I just wanted to make everyone aware of what is actually going on just now.

On the 13th of June 2020 I found a lump on my right side of my breast, by just having an itch ‍♀️! I have no experience or knowledge on how to check my breasts.

I went to my GP on the 15th, to be referred to the breast specialist. After a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy on the 25th of June. I was given the blow that they thought it was breast cancer, and also in 1 of my nodes.

Then on the 7th of July my world came crashing down, but luckily I had my rock beside me this time and it was confirmed!

After an MRI, 2x Nuclear Medicine scans, a Abdominal and chest scan and finally a gene scan. Everything else came back positive, with no further spread . But had multiple cysts in both breast - again something I’ve never felt or knew, but these were safe and told not to worry.

But, by then everything had changed. Our future, responsibilities and prospectives were all that mattered for our kids ‍‍‍.

So, we decided to finally tie with knot with only 5 weeks notice !! I smashed everything in under 2 weeks, and we had our dream wedding planned .

On the 12th of August we had Matthew start school, which we can’t thank Capshard Primary School more for helping us, and Hannah’s first day of primary 5.

This was also the start of my chemotherapy journey, and met another amazing and strong woman with her starting her chemotherapy journey too Stacey! Thank you xx xx

It was a rough couple of days to start with, then I finally started feeling better on the Monday 17th August, to only be admitted later that night to find out I had Neutropenic Sepsis. I was discharged after 1 week of being in - ward 42 was amazing at the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, thank you - this was also only 4 days before our wedding day .

On the 25th I had my wig consultation at Concept Hair and a dress fitting at Threads in Glenrothes, to try and get everything finalised and able to take the rest of the week off to relax.

On the wedding day, it was honestly one of the most traumatic days of my life! My hair started to fall out, and by the time of getting ready. I had bald spots, luckily Lorelle Elizabeth Photography came to the rescue and managed to get me a wig headpiece to cover everything. If it wasn’t for her, I would have honestly ran. I was planning my escape as I was so embarrassed, my confidence was rock bottom and I really didn’t want to be there.

The Balbirnie House Hotel was fantastic, and they couldn’t have been anymore more helpful!

We officially have the record of the latest ever wedding , with it being 3 hours late. But we really couldn’t thank our guests more for being so patient and kind for waiting!

The kids were honestly amazing and never played up once, I really couldn’t be prouder !

My main reason for this post - sorry for all the information, IS TO PLEASE protect our kids and not mention cancer to them or infront of them, and if mentioning anything, please don’t let Hannah or Matthew hear. As I’ve explained everything I want to them to know, I want to - TO PROTECT THEM and not make them scared and anxious.

Another reason is lady’s and gents please check yourselves, as if it wasn’t for that itch that day, I could currently be undiagnosed!

This post is not for sympathy, but also an understanding of what’s going on. As I may seem distant, but that’s only to protect my health with the bugs going about.

Thank you everyone that know so far, for your kind words and support.

2nd cycle done on the 2nd September and my side affects have refused. As my consultant found my side affects strong and has now lowered my chemotherapy amount. I have 6 cycles left, then a operation to remove my lump and node and finally probably some radiotherapy.

I can do this! Please sign this petition to protect ourselves, family and friends and create awareness of what’s going on. Are we’re all strong men and women’s! We just need to look out for ourself and each other. We have got this positively

Thank you again Andrew, I love you
