As the generation evolved, a lot of changes happened around the world, particularly for the people in it. Based on the past, there were only two accepted genders: male and female, but as of today’s generation, gender identities have also evolved. Different kinds of gender classifications came out, and they are also known as LGBTQIA+, but unfortunately, most people don’t really accept this sexualities. Mostly for these individuals, they’re discriminated against, disrespected, humiliated, and hated for who they are. However, what these people only desired was to be seen, heard, loved, and valued in the same manner as others who are categorized as men and women.

WHAT IS THE AIM OF THIS ADVOCACY?

This advocacy aims not only to enlighten the people but also to promote equality, acceptance, and inclusion for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, fostering a society where everyone can live authentically without fear of discrimination.

Let me share about a Filipino gay comedian who has been the voice for LGBTQ rights, named Vice Ganda.

The popularity of Vice Ganda a Filipino comedian, actor, host, singer, and television personality, an openly gay individual, in the Philippines, a predominantly Roman Catholic nation, is seen by observers as vital in kickstarting discussions of LGBT people to the mainstream media. She/he him/herself is an advocate to the local LGBT movement in the country, and is one of the prominent personalities that seeks equal opportunities to the LGBT members in the Philippines. She/he supports the SOGIE Equality Bill, a series of bills that was introduced to the Philippine Congress starting from the 2010s that aims to enact protections against discrimination towards LGBT people. In a live episode of It's Showtime in 2018, where she/he is one of the hosts, Vice Ganda expressed her/his opinions about the bill, saying that she/he faces discrimination in using comfort rooms of either gender, that the bill should be passed as soon as possible.

 

By being informed about embracing the diversity of gender identities, people will gain insight into the thoughts, perspectives and experiences of others. This broadens people's understanding, it promotes empathy and understanding, and potentially inspire action to make positive changes. People are going to be able to express their true selves without fear. In general, individuals learns about important issues and become more engaged and informed citizens and finally solving issues that would benefit ourselves and others. It creates a sense of community and connection, as like-minded individuals come together to work towards a common goal. You gain a better understanding of the struggles and experiences of others. This leads to greater empathy and compassion, helping to break down stereotypes and reduce prejudice.
