End "One-Size" Policy at Brandy Melville

The Issue

Brandy Melville first opened in 1994 but did not become as popular until recent years. This girls only clothing brand is primarily marketed and popular amongst teenage girls but only caters to the slimmest of bodies. Most girls wear this brand because their simple pieces tend to be stylish or make a fashion statement.

Unfortunately, Brandy Melville only offers one-size fits all which excludes the majority of girls. Having mulitple sizes nonexistent, is doing the company more harm than good. Brandy Melville models the “perfect” body imagine but this size discrimination and lack of diversity has affected many girls around the world. The brand needs to stop using models that are tall and skinny as a way of advertising.

Many young girls grow up struggling with body image issues and low self esteem and Brandy Melville’s portrayal of it’s clothing is just making that worse. Having one-size fits all clothing for such an on trend type of store is not fair. Not to mention, most of their pieces consist of crop tops and mini skirts. These revealing articles of clothing are uncomfortable for many girls to wear and only allow for a certain body type to model their clothing. Instead of appreciating differences in girls, Brandy Melville promotes body shaming with their inclusive sizing policies. While the brand should be promoting self-accecptance and self-love they are failing.

We are calling on Brandy Melville to end it’s “one size fits all” policy and start being more inclusive to others in hopes to stop tearing down the confidence of young girls.
