Brandy Melville is a major clothing brand that many teenage girls purchase products from. Major celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Madison Beer, Hailey Bieber, and Gigi Hadid are all known to wear Brandy Melville's clothes. Through the brand's gain of popularity, Brandy Melville has developed its own standard of beauty and aesthetic that many girls try to emulate. 

Brandy Melville is known for being one size fits all.... however in a diverse society with all different shapes and sizes, what does that even mean? When they say "one size fits all" they are really only saying that to those under one hundred pounds. All of this results to the promotion of eating disorders and body dysmorphia within young girls.

However size is not the only thing Brandy lacks diversity in. Within the past three years on their instagram, Brandy has posted five pictures of a model with darker skin. Five. Brandy posts very frequently as well, there is no excuse for a number this small. Not only does Brandy have a known past of refusing to work with models of color, but they also have a past of not hiring people of color in their stores.

Brandy has a huge social impact on teenage girls and has created a trend among women of trying to achieve the classic "brandy" look. As a society there should be a goal to eliminate the idea of whiteness as a global beauty standard, however brandy Melville perpetuates this idea that in order to be considered pretty you have to have a light complexion. No woman should be "too dark" to fit into Brandy Melvilles aesthetic.

Despite all of these well known issues Brandy Melville still flourishes. Brandy has been called out a few times and has completely ignored the issue, however they still have a lot of success. But could this mean that society is not yet ready to accept diversity as the norm? I refuse to accept this as an answer and that is why I encourage each of you to sign this petition and send a message to Brandy that they need to expand the representation of diversity within their brand.
