At this time, aside from the principal stepping aside from the Grade 8 graduation ceremony, there do not appear to be any further disciplinary repercussions. While this is a small victory is it not what we were hoping to hear today.
We have been informed that:
A bullying prevention program will be implemented in the fall.
Teachers and staff will no longer supervise their own children’s field trips.
Teachers and staff will no longer be involved in decisions regarding disciplinary action for incidents involving their own children at school.
While these changes are a step, many families do not feel they go far enough to address the concerns that have been raised.
If you or your child has experienced bullying, intimidation, or a lack of appropriate action within the school division, we encourage you to share your experience directly with the division. Send emails to Susan Gilleshammer, make phone calls, and respectfully let your voice be heard. Personal accounts help demonstrate that these concerns extend beyond a single incident or two.
We continue to believe that a zero-tolerance policy should be consistently applied to all students. Accountability, transparency, and student safety must remain the priority.
