#BoycottWBD and their treatment of Henry Cavill and its fans!
The Issue
You're watching Henry Cavill take his first flight as Superman in the “Man of Steel,” with Hans Zimmer’s score building in the background, and it makes you want to be a good person in a world that doesn't feel good. He's Superman, and he's not perfect but neither are you, and you belong.
Rather than allowing this universe to unfold to its full potential, Warner Bros. Studio intervened, doubled down, cut corners, and went to great lengths to remove its influence from our lives. No matter what side you were on, you couldn't deny that this cinematic universe was simply not allowed to be what it could have been.
But there was a glimmer of hope! Something that people swore could not and would not happen actually happened. We saw the characters again, as was intended.
When Zack Snyder's global phenomenon “Justice League” triumphed against all odds, there was a collective sense of awe at what standing up for something you believed in could achieve, an understanding that for once, stories mattered more than greed. We saw our universe take flight once more, but it was an unfinished story and, no matter how strongly it resonated with people, no matter how many people loved it, hated it, or couldn't stop talking about it (and still can't), Warner Bros. Studio failed to respond or acknowledge its unfinished business. The studio dragged its feet, and misleading fans and consumers with faceless cameos and inferior material.
That was, until, Henry Cavill received a call from the studio in 2022, inviting him to re-don the suit. It was an emotional moment, he said. Regardless of your feelings about Black Adam, Warner Bros. Studio announced Henry Cavill's return as Superman, which meant that hope had been rekindled for many who had grown tired of the studio’s games. Warner Bros. directly advertised to our faces that Henry Cavill was returning as Superman, as well and allowed actors like Jason Momoa to announce that Ben Affleck was returning as Batman, only fueling the fire that they were resurrecting these stories.
They lied.
James Gunn, the head of DC, met with Henry Cavill; shortly thereafter, Cavill officially announced on Instagram that, despite the studio telling him to announce his return (return: 1. come or go back to a place or person), James Gunn had a different vision. Oddly, Gunn had recently announced on Twitter that he was working on a script for “Superman Legacy” prior to Henry Cavill's announcement of his return.
The timeline as we know it:
In September, James Gunn is hired to write “Superman Legacy.”
On October 7th, Dwayne “The Rock”(Dwayne Johnson) begins teasing Henry Cavill's return.
On October 20th, former DC president Walter Hamada is fired.
On October 21st, the film “Black Adam” is released, in which a cameo confirms Henry Cavill's return as Superman.
On October 24th, Henry Cavill announces his return, explaining that there is more to come regarding the dawn of hope and thanking fans for their patience.
As Shakiel Mahjouri wrote for ET Canada, “It was recently revealed that Cavill will be putting on the cape and reprising his role as Superman from the “Man of Steel” and “Justice League” movies. In a new interview, Cavill teased a joyful version of Superman in his next project.
“The character means so much to me,” Cavill told Josh Horowitz on the “’Happy Sad Confused” podcast. “It’s been five years now? And I’ve — quite rightly, otherwise I probably shouldn’t deserve to wear the cape — I’ve never given up hope, and it’s amazing to be here now talking about it again.”
On October 25th, James Gunn is hired as the head of DC.
On December 15th, Henry Cavill meets with James Gunn and confirms that, despite being told by the studio to announce his return, he will no longer be Superman.
We were duped once more, and Warner Bros. Studio refuse to accept responsibility because they decided a long time ago that we are fish waiting to be fed, and that if they offered us food, we will take it.
But there comes a point when you step back and look at the big picture, how directors, actors, actresses, and fans have been treated both behind their backs and to their faces, as if the head of DC or the latest trade article peddling with half-truths will make us docile: I didn't fire him, but he let him go .
Now, James Gunn is saying a lot. We've been dismissed as "the minority" and "fringe elements," as if we shouldn't feel slighted, that we should be thankful that Gunn has a plan, even if that plan is built on the premise of us being lied to again.
It doesn't matter if you came to the DCU for Zack Snyder’s vision or a specific actor or actress, whether you came yesterday or have been along for the entire ride; what matters is that this studio needs you a lot more than you need them, and it's time we remind them of this with our voices and our wallets.
Warner Bros. Studio can make this right. They can do the right thing, whether it's incorporating these beloved characters into elseworlds or rethinking their current plan. However, Henry Cavill and others followed the rules, and they got burned; so did we, all because we wanted to see Zack Snyder's DC Universe finished.
Thus, we ask you to sign this petition to boycott Warner Bros. Studio and its unethical practices, including, but not limited to: their bullying and harassment of Ray Fisher and refusal to apologize to him; the gaslighting, manipulation, and exploitation of lead actors like Henry Cavill to gain our trust; the consistent belittlement of customers by the current head of DC; and the studio’s recent attempt to trick us with The Flash, knowing it is a direct erasure of the characters we have come to know and love.
Please sign this petition and urge Warner Bros. Studio to do right by its customers, talent, and employees. The time is now.
