The Issue

The people of Victoria call for a boycott of Value Village, a for-profit American corporation that has exploited its donors and customers

Why:

Price Gouging: VV has turned thrifting into a luxury. Items that were donated for free by are now being sold at outrageously prices. In some cases, items that still have the price tag on them being sold for triple the price. Used shoes for $40? Used vacuum for $70? This isn’t affordability — it’s exploitation. Value Village price gouging

Undermining the Purpose of Thrift: Thrift stores were meant to be accessible, affordable options for those in need. VV has chosen to prioritize profit over people.

American & Corporate Ownership: VV is owned by Savers, Inc., a U.S.-based for-profit company with a history of misleading and exploiting consumers.

We Demand:

1. Transparent, reasonable pricing that reflects the nature of donated items.

2. A re-commitment to making secondhand items actually affordable.

4. Support for locally owned, nonprofit thrift stores that serve communities—not shareholders.

Until these demands are addressed, we are choosing to spend our dollars elsewhere—Beacon Thrift, WIN, etc.

Thrift should be about community and affordability not capitalism.
