We are calling on all schools and businesses to end their relationships with Treedom.

Treedom is a digital service learning platform that contracts with schools including the Los Angeles Unified School District and various private schools in Los Angeles. Treedom’s founder and CEO, Michael Kadisha, is also a founder and co-owner of K3 Holdings, LLC, a real estate investment firm, landlord, and management company currently engaged in illegal, racist practices in dozens of large, residential buildings across Los Angeles.

With our support, a group of our neighbors—working-class Latinx families targeted by K3’s violent practices—along with the Housing Rights Center, have recently filed federal discrimination charges against Michael Kadisha and K3. As current residents of K3-owned buildings, we have witnessed the company’s campaigns of terror firsthand. K3’s business model is straightforward: acquire rent-controlled buildings in predominantly working-class communities of color, allow the properties to fall into horrifyingly uninhabitable conditions, and then aggressively cajole, harass, and intimidate the longstanding residents into leaving their homes. 

K3 and its agents have lied to us and our neighbors, claiming our buildings would be demolished and all residents were required to leave. We have witnessed K3’s agents threaten direct physical violence and threaten to use our neighbors’ immigration status against them. We and our neighbors have suffered intense trauma, including serious health maladies and panic attacks. Many families have been forced into homelessness. One of our elderly Latinx neighbors has died from the stress of forced displacement.

This is systemic racism at work—the same systemic racism about which Michael Kadisha and Treedom claim to be educating your students. And students who live in the neighborhoods and communities directly affected by K3’s violent practices have already begun sounding the alarm about Treedom and Michael Kadisha.

Hacemos un llamado a todas las escuelas y empresas para que terminen sus relaciones con Treedom.

Treedom es una plataforma de aprendizaje de servicio digital que tiene contratos con escuelas, incluido el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Los Ángeles y varias escuelas privadas en Los Ángeles. El fundador y director ejecutivo de Treedom, Michael Kadisha, también es fundador y copropietario de K3 Holdings, LLC, una empresa de inversión inmobiliaria, arrendadora y empresa de administración que actualmente se dedica a prácticas ilegales y racistas en docenas de grandes edificios residenciales en todo Los Ángeles.

Con nuestro apoyo, un grupo de nuestrxs vecinxs, familias latinx de clase trabajadora que son objeto de las prácticas violentas de K3, junto con Housing Rights Center, recientemente presentaron cargos federales de discriminación contra Michael Kadisha y K3. Como residentes actuales de los edificios propiedad de K3, hemos sido testigos directos de las campañas de terror de la empresa. El modelo de negocios de K3 es sencillo: adquirir edificios con alquiler controlado en comunidades de color predominantemente de clase trabajadora, permitir que las propiedades caigan en condiciones terriblemente inhabitables y luego engatusar, acosar e intimidar agresivamente a los residentes antiguos para que abandonen sus hogares.

K3 y sus agentes nos han mentido a nosotrxs y a nuestrxs vecinxs, alegando que nuestro edificios serían demolidos y que todos los residentes debían irse. Hemos sido testigos de que los agentes de K3 amenazan con violencia física directa y amenazan con usar el estatus migratorio de nuestrxs vecinxs en su contra. Nosotrxs y nuestrxs vecinxs hemos sufrido traumas intensos, que incluyen enfermedades graves y ataques de pánico. Muchas familias se han visto obligadas a quedarse sin hogar. Uno de nuestras vecinas ancianas Latina ha muerto por el estrés del desplazamiento forzado.

Este es el racismo sistémico en proceso, el mismo racismo sistémico sobre el que Michael Kadisha y Treedom afirman estar educando a sus estudiantes. Y los estudiantes que viven en los vecindarios y comunidades directamente afectados por las prácticas violentas de K3 ya han comenzado a hacer sonar la alarma sobre Treedom y Michael Kadisha.
