The Issue
I have cherished the moments spent enjoying radio stations over the years, many of which are now owned by iHeartMedia. Unfortunately, my relationship with these stations took a drastic turn recently, when I heard an ad for ICE hiring, under what I consider to be the oppressive policies of the Trump administration. It was at that moment I realized I couldn't continue listening. Thus, I call for a boycott.
iHeartMedia, the largest audio company in America, is under the leadership of Chairman and CEO Bob Pittman since 2011, with his Chairmanship beginning in 2013. With this position, Pittman holds significant influence over what is broadcasted on their stations including advertising content. The decision to air ads for ICE is a concerning move, particularly in this socio-political climate, as it may implicitly support practices that many find objectionable.
ICE, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has been criticized for its controversial immigration practices, including aggressive deportation tactics and detention practices under past and current policies. The airing of ads supporting ICE hiring can be construed as tacit compliance or support of these actions, which many citizens find troubling.
iHeartMedia has a responsibility to consider the values and standards of its listeners. Allowing ICE ads seems contradictory to values of inclusivity and respect. It’s imperative for them to reassess the kind of adverts they broadcast.
I urge you to stop listening to iHeartRadio stations until they cease running ads for ICE. We must hold them accountable for the content they choose to air and ensure that they align with our collective values and demand they remain socially responsible. By doing so, we take a stand not only against these specific ads but for the larger ethical principles we cherish.
Please join me in this boycott. Sign this petition to send a powerful message to iHeartMedia, asserting our demand for change in their advertising policies.
