Young people in the Rio Grande Valley are at risk due to the recently discovered sexual misconduct incidents involving Birdie Bistro owner, Fabian Vela. 

Without signing this petition, places like Birdie Bistro will remain open and under management of a family that continues to support Vela, despite his 16 year prison sentence. 

This petition requests that Fabian Vela's sister step down from her role as a child advocate in CASA. It also requests that Birdie Bistro obtain new ownership outside of the Vela family and friends; or be closed.

Owner of Birdie Bistro, Luis Fabian Vela, was arrested in January 2024 for enticing a minor via whatsapp. Link here. 

Vela is set to serve up to 16 years in prison. Many people sent letters on on his behalf vouching for his character; including his sister and former Catholic priest. Vela comes from a family of prestige in the Hidalgo county area. This should not excuse them from following the moral and ethical codes of standards regarding relationships with minors. 

• His sister, who supports his actions and character, is the executive director CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates. 
• The priest who vouched for his character recently had his priestly duties removed due to an allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor.
