The Issue

It deeply concerns me that an app is being used in our school to manage bathroom access, forcing students to complete their bathroom trips in just 7 minutes and allowing only 10 students out of thousands at any given time. This situation not only affects the dignity of students but also poses significant risks at times when emergencies arise.

Imagine being in a situation where there's an emergency: a medical need, or even something as simple as feeling ill or needing a moment alone. What if we don't have our phones to manage this nightmare of administration? This reality has become a frustration for many of us who feel that this app is not only impractical but also unnecessary. Our time spent in restrooms should not be managed like a factory, with minute counts and quotas.

According to educational researchers, students who have more freedom and autonomy tend to perform better overall and experience less anxiety. In fact, studies show that around 60% of students experiencing time constraints report increased stress levels, which could impact their mental health as well as their academic performance. Schools are meant to foster learning environments, not exacerbate stress and limitations.

We urge school administrators to reconsider the use of this app. Instead, let's return the control and responsibility to teachers and trust them to manage their students as they've been trained to do. Furthermore, schools should prioritize installing more bathroom facilities and keep better track of maintenance needs to ensure that these facilities remain accessible to all students when needed.

Let's voice our concerns to preserve the dignity and well-being of students. Sign this petition to demand that our school stop using this restrictive app and look towards solutions that empower students and reflect the educational values we wish to promote. We can make a change by coming together and asking for a simple, humane adjustment in our school policy.
