Discontinue the sale of the book, "I Wish My Kids Had Cancer"
The Issue
Autism is a terrible disorder affecting children today. It is one that never goes into remission, but how could any parent *wish* the diagnosis of cancer in lieu of Autism on their children? While Autism is not a disorder that any of us would want our child to have, it is not one that is taking the lives of seven children in the U.S.A. daily. Childhood cancer, unfortunately, carries a death sentence for so many of its innocent victims. Certainly, the author of "I Wish My Kids Had Cancer" isn't *wishing* the possible death of his own children?
How could a parent and author ever give title to a book about his children, "I Wish My Kids Had Cancer"? Michael Alan, America Star Books (formerly known as PublishAmerica), Amazon, Barnes and Noble, et. al., did you stop to think about the sector of society you are offending when you titled and ultimately sell this book under this name?
Michael Alan, have you ever witnessed a day in the life of a child battling the beast, let alone be the parent to one? Did you seriously sit down and think out a name for your book, that is dealing with Autistic children, and decide that maybe your children battling cancer would be easier? More bearable? Less expensive? Did you think about what your children might think of you one day, when they are old enough to read the title of the book that their father wrote?
Amazon, America Star Books (formerly known as PublishAmerica), Barnes and Noble, et al, did you take into consideration the title of the book, and the hundreds of thousands of children and families around the globe that it would offend? Children with cancer spend years, if they survive that long, in hospitals, clinics, hostage to their homes, enduring barbaric and grueling treatment. Their tiny bodies are pumped full of poison to try and combat the beast, leaving them almost lifeless, puking and in E.R.'s for life saving transfusions, and treatment of secondary effects of the posion. I could go on and on, but I am not a child with cancer, nor am I parent to a child with cancer, so I will not speak out of firsthand knowledge, because I have none. But, I advocate for them. I am here to represent the child fighting their heart out to beat the beast. I am here to help the parents in anyway possible. I am one of the thousands of voices with a heart, that obviously Michael Alan nor yourselves are displaying in a loving and compassionate manner.
Is it all about the almighty dollar, Amazon and Barnes and Noble? Is that why a book bearing such an offensive title remains on your shelves? Of course it is. There's one way that we, all of us that sign this petition, can make sure that not one more dime is profited off of such a book bearing the title, "I Wish My Kids Had Cancer", by spreading the word and boycotting any future purchases of not just the book, but of ALL products sold in your stores and on your web sites.
We implore you to remove the book from your shelves and digital files. We will not stop until you do. We will show you what the almighty dollar taken away will do. By signing this petition, we are all making a promise that we will purchase nothing further from your companies.
And, Michael Alan, on behalf of all of the children fighting this insidious disease, that WE FEEL SURE you do not wish your children were suffering from, we are asking for an apology to the children and their families. The childhood cancer community is up in arms, sick to their stomachs, and disgusted with your choice of title. It's a disgrace to the precious lives lost to this insidious disease, those battling day by day, and to the mother's and father's, siblings and loved ones that bear witness.
So, you think that you want one of your children to really have cancer? Ask yourself one more time, Michael Alan, because we really don't think you do. How can you, Michael Alan, be so heartless, and the sellers of your book be so greedy?
Each of you, imagine walking down the aisle of one of your stores, or perusing the book section on your website with a young child by your side. Now, imagine this young child having cancer, and spotting this book and looking to YOU for an explanation. WHAT would you possibly say? How do you explain such a title? How do you explain it being on the shelves and making a profit?
The most important question is, how do you sleep at night knowing seven children a day are dying from cancer in the USA alone, and a classroom of 37 are being newly diagnosed? 37 children a day, with no promise of treatment or cure. Are you sure, Michael Alan, that you want your children to be included in that horrid number?
I urge you to watch the following video for some startling facts about childhood cancer. "Talk is bullshit"... there's no other way to put it!
