I was researching some information for a new website, and I was astounded to find out that the Boy Scouts had discontinued the beekeeping merit badge. I was a Boy Scout and the Boy Scouts of America have always placed importance on conserving the environment and being involved in important civic matters. In 1995, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), discontinued the Beekeeping Merit Badge. With the importance of Beekeeping and the honey bee to our food chain, coupled with the challenges that the honey bee and pollinators in general have the responsible option is to reinstate the Beekeeping Merit Badge. Reinstating the Beekeeping Merit Badge will provide young men the educational opportunities to learn about the humble honey bee and the importance of the pollinators in our world. This also gives the BSA the opportunity to help support what could be one of the biggest environmental issues of our time.
