Important: We also encourage you to comment on the brand's Facebook page and to contact Bourjois on Twitter. This makes it more likely for others to read about their testing policy. All we ask is that you contact the brand and parent company in a polite and respectful manner, as this is more likely to generate a response. We also have a similar petition aimed at Miss Sporty, a brand owned by Coty Inc.
Bourjois is a popular drugstore cosmetics brand, whose animal testing status has been the subject of debate for a while in the cruelty-free blogging community due to rumours of selling in Mainland China. Many cruelty-free consumers continue to buy the brand's products, under the impression that the brand does not conduct any animal testing.
However, one cruelty-free blogger recently informed us that she had asked the brand directly if its products are sold in Mainland China. The brand confirmed this. It is also worth noting that the brand held numerous 150th anniversary celebrations across the country in 2013. This would imply that Bourjois is an established brand in Mainland China.
Despite this, there is no indication on the brand's UK website that it sells in Mainland China; simply that Bourjois sells in Hong Kong, where testing regulations do not require mandatory animal testing. As mentioned above, this has led to confusion over Bourjois' testing policies and led many customers to buy products under the impression that they are not tested on animals.
While we understand the reasons why cosmetics brands never provide a straightforward answer to questions surrounding animal testing, it is often easy to determine a brand's testing policy by checking if the brand in question has a Chinese web page. It seems odd that Bourjois will directly answer private queries as to whether the brand is sold in Mainland China, but keep the answer to this question hidden from the public eye. We would therefore like Bourjois to make it clear to its consumers that the brand is sold in Mainland China, to allow cruelty-free customers to continue to make informed decisions about their choices in cosmetics.
