We the undersigned of Tetbury and surrounding towns and villages included in the upcoming boundary change ask the Boundary Commission to support our fervent request that the name of the newly formed constituency be changed from “Cirencester and North Wiltshire” to either “South Cotswolds” or “South Cotswolds and North Wiltshire”.
Our justification for this request is as follows
In the Boundary Commission
 Guide to the 2023 Review of Parliamentary constituencies, Appendix D, sub section, Factors, you state that, “account will be taken of”
(a) special geographical considerations….. and
(d) any local ties that would be broken by changes in constituencies,
yet the name Cirencester and North Wiltshire takes no account of the fact that Tetbury and a significant number of towns and villages have been part of the area known as The Cotswolds for nearly 1000 years.
We feel that without recognition of our historic geographic status in the new constituency name, the specific political needs of a considerable area of South Cotswolds will be lost in favour of two areas currently forming the proposed constituency name. As Cirencester is known as, “The capital of The Cotswolds,” to use the name South Cotswolds would be logical and inclusive of all the areas listed to be reallocated.
