Protect West Roxbury's Residential And Business Areas: Oppose "Road Diet" On Centre Street
Please protect all of our streets and local businesses by signing this petition in opposition to the proposed Road Diet for
Centre Street in West Roxbury.
Reducing the number of travel lanes in each direction would cause increased traffic congestion on Centre Street, which would divert vehicles onto surrounding residential side streets, putting residents, in particular our children, in danger. More traffic congestion and loss of parking in the core of West Roxbury’s commercial district would have a lasting negative impact on our local businesses. In addition, the proposed Road Diet reconfiguration would hinder Emergency Services such as fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles.
Our Main Concerns:
o Safety On All Of Our Streets
o Losing Local Small Businesses
o Increased Response Times for Emergency Services
o More Traffic Congestion
We share concerns about pedestrian safety and encourage the exploration of alternative safety measures and are open to further discussions on this, such as the implementation of high visibility crosswalks and on- demand traffic signals. We urge the City of Boston to take measures to improve our existing crosswalks, to add walk signals or crosswalks as appropriate, and to implement common sense safety measures where deemed necessary.
We request that the Boston Transportation Department (BTD) provide at least one alternative plan that addresses safety concerns along Centre Street but that does not reduce travel lanes. We understand that any such plan would not be a final plan but we insist that at least one other plan be presented. It is important that all West Roxbury residents actually have a say in what happens in and to our neighborhood rather than BTD and our elected officials just pushing through their agenda.
We will send the signed petition to all our other elected officials as well as to the Boston Transportation Department.
