Road Safety Improvements for Chislehurst War Memorial Junction

Road Safety Improvements for Chislehurst War Memorial Junction

We call on Bromley Council to improve road safety for pedestrians at the junction on the A222 and the A208 - the Chislehurst War Memorial.
- We request the installation of a pelican/puffin push-button to be installed at the traffic light
- Road safety measures/ installations for the roads and pavements leading-up and into the junction - crossing over from Kemnal Road to the Royal Parade via The Shaw (slip road) and from the Royal Parade bus-stop over to the otherside of the Royal Parade - be this in the form of a dedicated lollipop person at school times, zebra crossing, a refuge etc.
- This junction is dangerous not just for parents and children crossing it but for all local residents using it including the elderly and disabled.
- How can active travel - walking, cycling - to schools or locally be encouraged without safe crossings?
The War Memorial junction and the roads that lead up to it are used daily by parents with young children not just from nearby primary school St Nicholas CE and Coopers secondary school pupils but also by parents and children walking/cycling/scooting from the Royal Parade end of Chislehurst to primary schools including Mead Road and Red Hill. Many parents, not only in Chislehurst but across the borough of Bromley wishing for their children to attend Coopers in the future are deeply concerned about this junction and dread the thought of their children using this junction without a safe crossing. There was a recent accident involving a pupil from Coopers crossing over at the Royal Parade in September.
This petition is requesting the council for safe crossing solutions at and around the War Memorial junction - not only children crossing it but all in our community. We cannot wait for a fatality before changes are made!
