Elephants are the largest living land mammals and experience emotions similar to that of humans: joy, sadness, love, rage, compassion, and even grief. These amazing animals are also endangered. In 2009, over 36,000 elephants were poached in Africa for their tusks in order to fuel the ivory trade which is in full swing as demands from China and Japan increase. The average life span of an elephant is 70-80 years old, but that life is being cut short by poachers.

Born Free Foundation is an organization that is dedicated to animal welfare. They have their own personal emergency rescue team that utilizes its resources to get animals, including big cats, apes, elephants and many others out of horrible living situations and also provides food and care. The organization also protects natural habitats that are endangered and also educate local communities, near the areas they work, to respect the wild and learn how to live peacefully alongside it without destroying it.

Their "...major international projects are devoted to animal welfare, conservation and education, and protect lions, elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, tigers, polar bears, wolves, dolphins, turtles, sharks and lots more. Through [their] Global Initiatives project [they] respond to emergency situations worldwide, participate in international coalitions such as the Species Survival Network, run the People & Wildlife project with Oxford University’s WildCru* department, and much much more."

The elephants really need our help, luckily we have organizations like the Born Free Foundation. Check out their elephant-specified "Campaign Action" on their website:

and sign this petition in order to help them keep fighting for the safety and preservation of elephants before poaching gets the best of their entire species. You can also help by signing another petition to stop the ivory trade at: www.bloodyivory.org

Any support is greatly appreciated, all it takes is your signature to start a change!
