Vote at 16 in England
The Issue
We are a group of GCSE students who feel strongly about voting at 16.
Under current legislation, a person must be 18 or over to vote in General Elections in the UK. The voting age for devolved and local elections in Scotland and Wales has been lowered to 16. The Labour Party, the SNP, the Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party, the Alliance Party of Northern Ireland and Sinn Féin all support voting at 16 for all elections.
Sixteen-year-olds are taxed on income yet still have no power in elections despite contributing to the country and its future.
