Gernon manor is an integral part of the local community. Providing local care to people who can no longer manage at home. The home has community at its heart and provides a "home" not just a care setting.  DCC are looking to close this due to upgrades needed that may prove costly. To move residents that have been in this home many years would not only be detrimental to their health but also leave the community without a local care setting to prevent hospital admissions, something we have only recently seen in the area when newholme community hospital closed.
