Longer prison sentences for people convicted of animal cruelty.
The Issue
Not a day goes by without hearing or reading about an act of extreme animal cruelty carried out by the so called most intelligent species on this planet, the Human. Extreme and barbaric violence is used against poor defenceless and voiceless animals, animals which have as much a right if not more to be on this planet than us. Animal rights have been put at the bottom of the list of rights, is that due to them not being able to speak and represent themselves? This needs to change.
Currently the law to protect animals does not serve as a deterrent, this is shown with the unduly lenient sentences handed down upon convictions. As things stand, I can go out and kill a cat with no severe consequences but the moment a human is killed the law changes from getting a verbal warning to spending years in jail. Why is there such a disparity in the law, in both cases an innocent life has been taken.
The law needs to change and courts should have the authority to hand down far tougher sentences. Longer prison sentences are needed for animal abusers, some even go on to kill humans later in their life. Currently there is absolutely no deterrent for these people, this needs to change and it needs to change now.
Animals need to be given the same right to life as humans and the same protection by the law of Great Britain. Help by signing this petition. Collectively we can be a voice for these voiceless animals, so let's be heard.
