Hemp was once grown world-wide until the event of textiles being made from oil, but whereas oil production causes destruction of the environment, hemp takes out more CO2 from the air than trees. Hemp also needs a fraction of the water and none of the chemical input needed to grow cotton. Hemp also makes strong fibres that can be used for anything from rope to clothing. Hemp can be made into over 1000 products from food through to plant plastic. Henry Ford made his first car from plant plastic. It makes building materials lighter and safer than cement but with all the necessary strength of bricks and mortar. 

The prejudice against growing hemp comes from it being in the same family of plants as Marijuana. But you cannot get high on hemp as it contains no THC but does contain healthy oils like CBD and omegas.

With the need for green jobs surely an industry built around home grown hemp makes both economic and environmental sense. It is the licensing restrictions that are holding back what could be a boon for farmers and our country. Please sign and share this petition and send it on to your MP.
