Dear friends
We’ve now passed 230,000 people signing our petition to demand a fairer system. And the pressure we’re putting on the Government is starting to show - within the last 24 hours, Ofqual (the exams regulator for England) issued new guidance on appeals... but then retracted it.
Together we’re demanding the government fix its unfair system for deciding this year’s A-level and GCSE exam “results”. My lawyers sent our legal letter to the government on Friday (you can read a copy of it here). This morning, we sent another one, demanding clarity and transparency about what is going on (there’s a copy for you to read here).
Things are moving fast, and I’ll keep you updated. My team is preparing to issue proceedings as soon as possible next week (that means we move forward with the judicial review).
We've smashed our original goal of raising £15,000 on our GoFundMe page, so to make sure I'm as protected as best as possible from having to pay Ofqual's legal fees, we've raised the goal to £25,000. My lawyers have asked Ofqual to confirm they won't pursue me for costs if we lose - but they’ve not yet confirmed that, so there’s still a risk there.
What’s more, Stephen Kinsella has very kindly offered to match all donations made in the next 48 hours. Can you help chip in, if you haven’t already?
Of course, we hope that the government will do the right thing, and fix the system before the case goes ahead. If they do, people who kindly donated will be offered a refund, and anything left over will be donated to good causes tackling misuse of algorithms and educational inequality. If we go to court and end up with money left over, it'll be donated in the same way.
Thanks for your support. Together we are beating the government on their use of an unfair algorithm.
