Petition updateBoris Johnson: we need a fairer system for this year’s A-level and GCSE studentsWe did it!

Friends, we did it! More than a quarter of a million people signed the petition, and we’ve made real change because of it.
Today, the Government learned that kicking young people’s futures to the curb doesn’t work. They’ve been forced to backtrack on giving students algorithmically-generated A level grades, instead reverting to grades that teachers – the people who know the students best – produced.
Let’s be clear – this isn’t a perfect situation. In an ideal world, this would have happened well before A level results day. For many, this will be too little, too late; they’ve already lost university places, apprenticeships and job offers.
Equally, though, this is still a victory. In just four days, we’ve reversed government policy completely – something which was described as “absolutely guaranteed” not to happen, has now happened. My team and I couldn’t have done it without every single one of you.
Speaking of my team, I’ve had the absolute pleasure and privilege of working with Foxglove on this – a new nonprofit who aim to stop digital injustice. They’ve been by my side and in my ear the whole time – even gone midnight on their holidays in the countryside. I could not have asked for better people to work with – and for them to do it all for free, as they did, is simply amazing.
I’ll sign off with this: change can happen. Never stop fighting for what you believe in, because we’ve seen the results we can pull off when we all band together.
Stay loud, and make your voices heard.
Curtis
P.S. They didn’t ask me to put this in, but I want Foxglove to be there for the next person to face a bad algorithm deciding their future. If you’ve got a few quid spare, please do consider donating to them. We need them now more than ever.
