Anyone must hold a licence to breed a dog

Anyone must hold a licence to breed a dog

The Issue

Lockdown has brought a lot of changes to the country. Being stuck at home has created a drastic rise in dog purchasing. With this being said, the price of dogs has dramatically increased in some cases over 300%

The welfare and whereabouts of these animals are going undetected, the conditions and checks are being missed.

A law was created in October 2018 that any person is required a licence when breeding 3 or more litters in a 12 month period unless they can show that none of the puppies have been sold.

Unfortunately this is now outdated.

If we require a licence for any person to breed a dog at any yearly period this will begin to stop the unnecessary cruelty towards these animals.

These are live creatures that are in some cases being born to suffer. Whether KC registered, Pedigree, Mixed breed it must be a requirement for a breeder to apply for a licence for each litter and reapply there after for a new litter. This would then require a person to be in a financial position to carry out all health checks and necessary care in place and free up the difficulty of rescue centres and veterinary clinics who are picking up the pieces of bad breeders, or at least breeders who have a lack of knowledge in the welfare of the animals.

Puppies should only be available from ethical breeders who can provide for the welfare training, health and socialisation. Furthermore once the puppy is fully vaccinated and microchipped, they will be under a law that restricts the puppy from being bred in an unlicensed home.

This license is also to cover the studding. If you would like to stud your dog, you must require a license to do so.

Rescue centres are inundated with unwanted pets and are working tirelessly to rehome pets who are discarded or removed from terrible situations.

Innocent people are feeling the need to carry a burden if they see a bad breeder and feel the need  to save the animal or take it out of the bad situation, in effect, feeding the pockets for that person to do it again.

In the case of an ‘accidental litter’ you will be fined. With a term that your animal must be spayed/neutered.With the encouragement of spaying/neutering this would prevent any further health issues or ‘accidental litter’

In addition to this, if you are unlicensed and your pet isn’t able to breed, they no longer appeal to thieves.

As this is also on the increase, the British public along with social media’s are taking it among themselves to make these animals too hot to handle. With the governments backing and legal documentation in place, this will no longer become a very tragic and frightening occurrence to animal owners around the country.

Lucy’s law ensures that puppies and kittens are sold in their place of birth, in the presence of their mother, and not sold or resold by a third party. These much-needed restrictions will help end the cruel and inhumane practice of puppy farming across England, improve welfare standards among breeders and end unnecessary suffering.
In effects with this any breeder HAS to be required to accept the animal back if there are any issues.

Why end there when the problem is so much bigger.

It’s time to step up, speak out and start somewhere to find a solution.
