Renew Missouri started this petition to Boone County Commissioners

The currently proposed wind farm regulations are a ban on clean energy in Boone County and will be used by anti-wind advocates throughout the state of Missouri. The commission must reject this WIND FARM BAN because it sets a dangerous precedent for other local governments in Missouri. We will not be able to shut down coal plants, lower utility bills, and create good-paying jobs if this ordinance passes and spreads.

Boone County - the home of the University of Missouri and one of the most liberal voting districts in the state - is considering restrictions on wind farm development so severe that no development could occur even in the most remote portions of the county. While officials have publicly said this is a reasonable ban, documents Renew Missouri found in a Sunshine Law request tell a different story. An anti-wind advocate developed these ordinances. Officials admit there is no way any wind could get built in the county. We have summarized all of it and have the documents on our website - here.

If Boone County Commissioners want to ban wind in Boone County, they have the right to do that. But they know the majority of their constituents would disagree with this sentiment. So they misrepresent what these ordinances will do. This is bad government: Secret and dark.

We need you to contact these lawmakers. Even if you do not live in Boone County, they need to know that if an ordinance like this passes in Boone County, it can pass anywhere. "If those liberals in Boone County say this is okay, it must be!" You can already hear it. This decision will have huge consequences everywhere else.

Wind farm development brings much-needed revenue to agricultural communities. It brings added property tax revenue to school coffers. It creates good-paying and stable jobs. In fact, the alternate ordinance Renew Missouri has proposed included provisions about hiring local workers.

Don't let Boone County start a trend that will knock Missouri off its course to a clean energy future. If anything, demand that politicians like Janet Thompson call this ordinance what it is. A ban. Be open and transparent about your intentions.
