Reasonable rate increase for the Cultus Lake Sailing Club

The Issue

Sailing has been a part of life in Cultus Lake, British Columbia for over 100 years.

It is an environmentally-friendly sport, with participants of all ages. The Cultus Lake Sailing Club is a non-profit society, operated by unpaid volunteers.  On average, at the end of the year, we break even.

The Club makes sailing accessible by providing "Learn to Sail" programs and offering a sailboat sharing program.   We operate under the oversight of provincial, national and international sailing bodies and host recreational and competitive sailing events. Local Businesses are supported by the people who attend our training and sailing events.

Due to our volunteer base, we provide training and administer sailing events more cost-effectively than a local government could, and keep the Cultus Lake Park Board free of legal liability.

The Club pays the Park Board to occupy a spot in the Sunnyside campgrounds and for a storage shed.  For the past 10 years, the rates increased about 2% per year.  The Club agreed with those increases and agrees to similar future increases. However, this year, the Park Board proposed an increase of about 550%. This will make it impossible for the Club to continue operating.  Additionally, with only 6 weeks’ notice, the Park Board told the Club to vacate the Park by August 22nd.

Please support our request for an increase similar to previous increases.
