Conduct Core Soil Sampling of Fenimore Landfill

The Issue

Over 375,000 cubic tons of material was brought to the Fenimore Landfill in Roxbury NJ over an 18 month period.  None of the material brought in was tested for toxins except for sulfur content. Over 2000 residents, 5 schools, and a class C1 stream that provides drinking water to millions of people are within 1/2 mile of the Fenimore Landfill.  All calls for core soil sampling by residents, Roxbury Township, and the owner of the landfill have been denied by the NJDEP. WHY?

What is the NJDEP and Governor Christie's Administration hiding in the Fenimore Landfill that they don't want the public to know?

We need to know what type of contamination exists in the new material to determine what closure plan is best for residents of Roxbury. In any type of environmental remediation, you must first determine what is in there first, then create a plan that best deals with each UNIQUE situation.

We know that Superstorm Sandy material was dumped in the landfill.  We know material that was NOT on the approved material list was dumped in the landfill such as medical waste, tires, and asbestos. We know material dumped in the landfill came from two Class B DEP Approved Recycling Centers where Organized Crime has been involved with.  We know that there is other toxins coming out of the scrubber/oxidizer other than hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide. We know that buring VOC's in a scrubber/oxidizder can create new and more toxic materials such as Sulfuric Acid and Dioxins.  We know it can take years for toxins to leach out into the water table and aquafiers and affect the drinking water.

By conducting core soil sampling, we will know exactly what was dumped in the material, we can determine what plan is best for Roxbury, and we can more effectively monitor the air, soil, and water to protect the health and well being of Roxbury and the drinking water for millions. We need this testing ASAP!
