The bulldog has been the mascot of Hinds AHS and Utica Junior College and now the Utica Campus of Hinds Community College for many years.  This beloved mascot is one of the last links to the legacy of an award winning athletics department.  We have cheered our Bulldogs to many state championships.  Many of us played under this banner.  But the bulldog is more than games and championships.  It represents the soul of what it means to be a Uticanite.

It has been suggested that the Bulldog be replaced with the Eagle, which is the historic mascot of the Raymond campus of HCC.  This act will do a disservice to the history and the legacy of our HBCU "THE" Utica campus.  We cannot allow this to happen.

We ask you to consider signing this petition to help us show that the change will not work for us.  It is important that we raise our voices to make it known that our history and traditions must not be eroded.

Stand up.  Stand with us. Stand up for the traditions and history of the Utica campus.  Speak to your elected officials, county supervisors, board members and let them know this should not be allowed to happen.
