Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said, “Injustice anywhere, is a threat to justice everywhere,”

Injustice has threatened our students and staff at Howard University Middle School of Mathematics and Science (HUMS2). The HUMS2 students, have organized, protested, staged walk-outs, and requested meetings to address the direction in which our beloved school is heading and we are "Still waiting" for answers.

What's really happening?  Seven staff members have resigned this academic school year, not including the three Social Studies teachers, who after submitting their two-week notices, were retaliated against and forced to leave early per HUMS2 administration. The Administration and the Board of Directors are using Gestapo tactics to sweep these situations under the rug by replacing the Social Studies Department with three uninformed substitute teachers to the unhealthy climate at HUMS2.

Under this fascist regime, staff members continue to be unsupported and have not been provided the proper training or given the supplies needed to teach students. The IT department was escorted out of the building by campus police and there has been no follow up regarding this incident. There has also been no formal investigation of the reported sexual predator working at the middle school who continues to inappropriately hug and touch female students.

The HUMS2 administration is dishonest and hiding information from not only the students and staff but the board as well, causing many to ask still unanswered questions. Questions like, What happened to the NAACP investigation? Were there any findings or were they paid off to be quiet by the President’s office. Dr. Blackmon continues to lock herself in her office and is reluctant to meet with teachers, students or parents to discuss the concerning administrative behavior at the school.  The Students have been and continue to be threatened by HUMS2 administration that if they walk out again, they will all be expelled from school. 

 Due to the lack of transparency, communication and the complete disregard for the individuals who work and learn at HUMS2, a petition has been created to garner your support to end the injustice and restore HUMS2 to a thriving top ranked Math and Science Middle School in our Nation’s capitol:

1. Immediate resignation of Principle Dr. Angelique Blackmon, Vice Principle Mr. Wesley Ellis, and Dean of Students Mr. Lee Vason.

2. Removal of Howard University President Dr. Wayne Fredrick from HUMS2 Board of Directors

3. Certified and trained teachers and staff should replace the resigning staff and unqualified staff members.

4. Staff should receive adequate training to properly teach Black and Latino children.

5. Howard University alumni should stop financially supporting an institution the supports injustice and oppression of students and staff members.

6. Full disclosure of the NAACP investigation.
