Atkinson County Has long been known by the name of “Rebels” flying there Confederate flag at games and even showing it on class rings and school letterman jackets. As a Young black man I was ashamed to tell people my high school mascot when asked. I not only speak for my myself by hundreds of people who believe this racist mascot should be removed. A school should not be represented by a soldier who fought to keep racial injustice in place. They have years took the rebel man from events and paintings but the name should be moved. You would never go to Germany and see them celebrate nazis so why do we celebrate confederate Soldiers . Please sign this petition to change the name of the Atkinson County mascot.
