Why this petition matters

Started by Himalee Shah

The traffic situation in Mumbai is getting worse by the day. With Metro construction on two major roads, underground construction across parts of the city, multiple road and flyover constructions and potholes marring the roads, travelling in Mumbai has become a nightmare.

Today, between privately owned cars and bikes, autorickshaws and taxis, can services like Ola and uber, private and BEST Busses, Swiggy / Zomato etc delivery agents and other heavy transport vehicles like trucks and tempos, hawkers and roadside vendors, the city’s roads and people are suffocating. When combined with the city’s crippling infrastructure, it’s a wonder we manage to get anywhere.

It’s time for the “Chalta Hai” attitude to give way to action. Mumbai is by no means a large city, so it shouldn’t take 3 hours to cross a 15km stretch.

This petition is an appeal for the residents of Mumbai to together ask the BMC and the Mumbai Traffic Police to wake up and address the situation.

Fix the roads, enforce stricter traffic laws to curb undisciplined drivers and riders and introduce restricted hours for heavy vehicles across all roads to avoid further congestion. That is just the beginning, but it’s a step in the right direction.
