Let’s get Blue Bell to use environmentally friendly seaweed “plastic” to seal containers.
Let’s get Blue Bell to use environmentally friendly seaweed “plastic” to seal containers.
The Issue
I have already emailed a letter to Blue Bell asking them to use a biodegradable seaweed “plastic” to seal the lids on their containers. Let’s take what these childish people begging for attention on social media are doing and turn it into something much bigger than all of us.
Dear Blue Bell,
As a native Texan, I have always loved your ice cream. When I was serving in the Navy for 12 1/2 years in Norfolk, VA, I would always stock up when I came home on leave. (This is before Blue Bell was available in that area). In light of recent events, I know you guys are hard at work trying to figure out a solution to certain individuals who feel the need to mess with everyone’s Blue Bell.
I am here to offer a solution. Yes, you can just place a plastic ring around the lid of the packaging, but hear me out. There is a much better solution. Better for all of us, and better for the environment. There is a product that is a “plastic” made of seaweed. It is both edible and biodegradable. Pouches made of this were handed out at the London Marathon. I have included a link to an article about it. As a runner, I feel that this is a HUGE step in the right direction. I actually ran your Blue Bell 10K back in 2012 in support of Project Graduation. So I know Blue Bell cares about the community. I know how many paper cups and water bottles get thrown out at these events. You could even start handing out these pouches at your annual race.
As someone that deeply cares about my environment and the oceans, I just cannot understand why more steps are not being taken to migrate to this technology. Our oceans are already severely polluted with non biodegradable plastics that are killing marine life. Is this the world you want to leave your children? Because I know it isn’t the world I want for my children. Seaweed can be grown specifically for this purpose with no adverse reaction to the environment. Changes are going to have to be made.
So why not take this opportunity to make those changes safer for all life on our planet? You can be one of the first companies taking the lead with this product. Fellow Texans and all marine life thank you for considering this.
P.S. Please bring back Red Velvet Cake. It was my favorite and I haven’t seen it since the listeria recall. And there was another seasonal ice cream you used to make, White Chocolate Almond. (I haven’t seen it since the 90’s).
Sincerely yours,
Jennifer Abshire
