The Issue

Reservations; along with small towns such as: Raymond, Cardston, Glenwood (etc)are at huge risk because of The Grassy Mountain Coal Mine Project that will soon be taken action on, on the reservation of kainai. This will threathen our people, other towns, the water we use daily to; drink, cook, clean especially for the wild life & home pets that need water resources.

  • The project will affect all of us because it can cause contaminated water, causing huge health risks, possibly even death with how bad it can get contaminated. If you dig deep into the past years, there once was a time that Lethbridge had contaminated water causing the people having to boil their water in-order to cook, drink or bathe themselves in. That possibly wont work this time for our people if they want access to water. That is how bad this project can affect us, and the natural resources we need.

The project they want to do on OUR piece of land that was signed specifically to us, goes against the peace treaty that was signed so the indigenous can have their rights when it comes to the indigenous cultural ways of life, so we can continue to be in-tuned with our beliefs/culture. (i.e. hunting, fishing, ceremonial dances & practices..) If the project is done on OUR piece of land, it will break the contract(Peace treaty). This does not align with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

AGAIN, this does not only affect reservations/indigenous peoples but small local towns located in Northern America such as; Cardston, Raymond, Glenwood, Spring Glen, Watertown etc. Any towns located close to any reservations especially near Painai, or Piikani, are deeply affected. If the project is take action on, we could lose part of our indigenous cultural ways of life that we are very deeply connected to. We need to put an end to it, to protect not only the wildlife, land resources, and our peoples health but the other towns and races of people close to us. We dont want this to affect anyone close to this projects health, or usage of clean water. We want to look out for ALL people's health, along with the land itself & the wildlife.
