The Issue

To: Google, YouTube, and Google Family Link Development Teams

We, the undersigned, are concerned parents, guardians, and advocates for child safety and well-being. We urge Google and YouTube to take immediate action to address the negative impact of YouTube Shorts on children by:

1. **Removing YouTube Shorts from YouTube Kids**: YouTube Shorts, with their addictive, fast-paced, and algorithm-driven content, are not suitable for young audiences. The platform's design encourages endless scrolling and exposure to inappropriate or unvetted content, which can harm children's mental health, attention spans, and development.

2. **Enabling Blocking of YouTube Shorts via Google Family Link**: For parents who allow their children to use the main YouTube app, we request that Google Family Link include a feature to block or disable YouTube Shorts. This would give parents greater control over their children's viewing habits and ensure a safer, more age-appropriate experience.

**Why This Matters:**
- **Addictive Design**: YouTube Shorts is designed to maximize engagement, often at the expense of healthy screen time limits. Children are particularly vulnerable to these addictive features.
- **Inappropriate Content**: Despite YouTube's content moderation efforts, inappropriate or harmful content often slips through, exposing children to material that is not suitable for their age.
- **Parental Control**: Parents need better tools to manage their children's online experiences. Google Family Link is a powerful tool, but it currently lacks the ability to block specific features like YouTube Shorts.

**Our Request:**
We call on Google and YouTube to prioritize the well-being of children by:
- Removing YouTube Shorts from the YouTube Kids app entirely.
- Adding a feature in Google Family Link that allows parents to block or disable YouTube Shorts on their children's devices.

By taking these steps, Google and YouTube can demonstrate their commitment to creating a safer digital environment for children and supporting parents in their efforts to protect their kids from harmful content and addictive behaviors.

**Sign the Petition:**
We, the undersigned, support this petition and urge Google and YouTube to take immediate action.

**How You Can Help:**
1. Sign this petition and share it with other concerned parents and guardians.
2. Contact Google and YouTube directly to express your concerns.
3. Spread awareness about the impact of YouTube Shorts on children and the need for better parental controls.

Together, we can make a difference and ensure a safer online experience for our children.

Sincerely,
