The Issue

In 2008, a horrendous crime shattered the lives of many. William Walsh was convicted of the brutal murder of his wife, Leah Hirschel Walsh, during an argument about his infidelity. In a fit of rage, Walsh choked Leah to death in their bedroom. The cold and calculating actions that followed showed a complete disregard for human decency. Instead of showing any semblance of remorse, Walsh wrapped Leah’s body in black trash bags and left her in the apartment. In a chilling display of normalcy, he spent the entire day engaging in regular activities like visiting the gym, doing laundry, and even eating at McDonald's.

Later, under the cover of night, Walsh transported Leah’s body in the passenger seat of her car to a secluded wooded area along the Long Island Expressway, attempting to hide his heinous crime. This premeditated and heartless act robbed Leah’s family and friends of a beloved woman and teacher of special needs children and left a permanent scar on the community.

Now, in December 2025, after serving just a part of his 18-year-to-life sentence, William Walsh is up for a parole hearing for the first time. Granting parole to Walsh would be a grave injustice not only to Leah's memory and her family but also to the safety and security of the public.

Statistics from the Bureau of Justice Statistics show that offenders with similar crimes of passion often do not reform adequately, posing a continued risk to society. Leah’s family, friends, and the community, plagued by the memory of this tragic loss, deserve justice and peace of mind, knowing that a dangerous individual remains behind bars.

We urge the parole board to consider the severity of the crime, the impact on Leah’s loved ones, and the potential threat to public safety if William Walsh is released. Upholding the integrity of the justice system is crucial in this matter, and ensuring Walsh serves a full sentence reflects that commitment.

Please join us in demanding justice for Leah Hirschel Walsh by signing this petition to block William Walsh's parole. Together, we can ensure that this heinous crime is punished to the fullest extent, bringing solace to those who continue to grieve Leah's untimely and tragic death. Your signature can make a difference in keeping our community safe and honoring Leah’s memory. Sign now to show your support.
