To Finally Allow Runes, and Gems to be Stackable in Diablo 2 Resurrected.

To Finally Allow Runes, and Gems to be Stackable in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
The Issue
Ever since the beginning of time in Diablo 2 Gems have never been stackable, and there are 5 different levels; Chipped, Flawed, Normal, Flawless, and Perfect of 7 different kinds of gems being; Rubies, Sapphires, Emeralds, Amethysts, Diamonds, Topaz, and Skulls. Players utilize different gems for different things ranging from actually adding them to socketed items for their stats, or perks they may add to them. They're also used for MANY different Horadric Cube crafting recipes ranging from using chopped gems to craft a basic rejuvenation potion, to crafting custom pieces of armor, or altering stats, or sockets in different items. Plus after the first 10 or so Runes you are required to use a different gem of different quality in addition to multiples of the same rune to create the next level rune. To increase the quality of your gems you need to combine 3 of one quality to achieve the next, ie. 3 chipped to make one flawed all the way up to perfect.
Then once Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction was released Runes were introduced into the game. There are a total of 33 different runes, again like gems each rune takes up one inventory slot. But runes are again used for numerous different things ranging from adding them to sockets in gear for their stats, or perks. Adding them in certain combinations into socketed items to create what's known as runeword items, as well as using them in Horadric Cube crafting recipes. Luckily you can combine runes all the way up to the very last one playing ladder on old school Diablo 2, or regular play on Diablo 2 Resurrected.
Now I dont know about anyone else, but in diablo 2 I used to, and still do have more mules(characters used to hold your extra items, gems, runes, extra gear for later use, or for trading) than I had regular characters I ever played. Why is that? Because you are limited to inventory space, and stash space. Luckily with Diablo 2 Resurrected the stash not only got its storage upgraded to 100 slots per page, but we also received a handful of shared stash tabs. The shared tabs is so incredibly nice, which means I no longer have to wait for a friend or family member to help me transfer my gear over to my mules. While playing the beta for D2R I ended up filling up a good portion of my non shared stash tab, and more than 60%of my shared stash tabs. Most of which were occupied with gems! To have one of each quality, and 1 of each kind of gem you would have occupied 35 spaces in your stash. Typically you end up with numerous of each quality, and kind of gem which as I'm sure you've experienced this can fill up 100, 200, 300, or even 400 slots within even a week or two.
I ask the developers at Blizzard Entertainment on behalf of most of the Diablo community to PLEASE allow gems, and runes to be stackable, mayne stacks of 20, 50, or if you feel like spoiling us 99. By allowing us to stack our gems, and runes we can help keep down the clutter of extra characters on the servers by no having to create multiple mules. It would be extremely beneficial to us players to be able to limit out gems, and runes to one shared stash tab with numerous gems, and runes all stacked together. Obviously only being able to stack the quality, and style of gem with one another such as chipped diamonds with chipped diamonds, and so on. So if we were to have multiplea of each style, and quality of gem, and each rune we would only have to occupy a total of 68 slots in our inventories, or stashes instead of hundreds. and hundreds of slots which could be better occupied by all of the pieces of gear we accumulate and horde with the intention of one day creating a character to wear them.
To summarize the benefits to the likes of the players, to Blizzard, and Battle.net the ease storage, and organization of our gems, and runes would be much more simplified, and would be able to be located within typically 1 stash tab/page instead of having to create multiple characters strictly to hold these 1 slot items. By allowing stacking of these items it would decrease the amount of unnecessary characters across all servers which in turn would keep the amount of unused characters much lower than if they remain unstackable. By allowing gems, and runes to be stacked up to say 99 per stack we could keep the servers open for characters being used for actual game play. Therefore reducing the amount of unnecessary server upgrades on Blizzard, and Battle.nets end. By reducing the amount of character clutter, and keeping the servers down to more playable characters instead of mules less money would have to be invested into server upgrades, the game could operate more smoothly, and require less maintenance. On top of it all if gems, and runes became stackable it would not change the overall gameplay at all. Stacking of 1 slot consumable items such as gems, and runes would merely be a HUGE convenience for players. Every time a patch was released in Diablo 2 I always hoped that this feature would be added. Well D2R is supposed to be a remastered and perfected version of the most perfect, and undying video game to ever be released from my understanding. I, and many other players I've spoken to believe that this one addition could potentially be the biggest, most appreciated addition to the soon to be released remastered version of the game. I'm no coder by any means, but from my understanding to add the ability to stack these items wouldn't take too terribly much in the ways of effort, or labor.
I ask only that runes, and gems be stackable due to them constantly being needed through the course of the game, and that they have no designated slot. Not only are they used for crafting by most players, but high level runes became a type of trading currency later on in Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction, and I see this trend continuing on. Some may argue that potions should be included as well, but that's not necessarily true, making potions stackable would alter a huge portion of the game. Wearing no belt gives you 4 potion slots, and you can upgrade your belt to having 4 rows, and 4 columns. Having 16 slots in your belt means you must choose wisely as to which combination of potions you choose to carry.
So as a veteran Diablo player(I played Diablo 1, Diablo 1: Hellfire, Beta tester for the original Diablo 2, Diablo 2, Beta tester for Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction [Over the years I have invested hundreds, maybe even thousands of hours playing LoD due to it truly being a timeless masterpiece], Diablo 2 LoD, and Diablo 3) I ask for the communities signatures to show support behind this simple, yet ever so needed addition to the game to show Blizzard that we not only want, but we desperately NEED the ability to stack our gems, and runes. It would be absolutely amazing to see this feature added up on the launch if Diablo 2 Resurrected on September 23rd. With this small addition the almost perfect 20+ year old game would truly be perfect then. Again adding the ability to stack gems, and runes would in no way, shape, or form alter the actual gameplay, it would not make Diablo 2 less enjoyable, honestly it would make it more enjoyable being that our storage would be a lot less cluttered with gems, and runes, and could be filled with gear instead. So please take a moment of your time to sign this petition, and pass it along through the Diablo playing community with hope of being able to catch Blizzards attention. Hopefully our voices as the players who make up their loyal community can be heard, and acknowledged. I know personally that I would love to have more storage to horde gear for characters I dream of making all while still playing my hammerdin, and frenzy barb non stop.
Remember,: "One voice alone often goes overlooked, but when a community unites, and stands together it's a lot harder to be ignored." So let us unite with a simple petition to ask Blizzard Entertainment to please add the ability to stack gems, and runes so that we may properly utilize the abundant increased stash storage they have so kindly graced us with in the upcoming Diablo 2 Resurrected. It would be an absolute shame to have to fill up multiple shared stash tabs/pages with gems, and runes when we could literally narrow it down to a mere 68 slots total for most of us with the ability to stack each gem, and rune to a total of 99 per stack. Like I stated earlier I only had time to play the open Beta for D2R even though I preordered the game, but in those few days I filled up over 60%of my shared stash, and personal stash tabs with mostly chipped, and flawed gems with a handful of runes. Sure I could combine all of my gems, but then you end up with tons of perfect gems. Not to mention different cube recipes call for different quality, and different styles of gems ranging from chipped emeralds, to perfect skulls, so it wouldn't necessarily make sense to combine all of my gems, nor do I want to have to go back to lower difficulties to farm chipped, flawed, or normal quality gems to craft different items. I like to accumulate my gems of different qualities as I progress through the difficulties on each of my characters.
When this eventually reaches the hands of the Diablo 2 Resurrected developers at Blizzard I, and many other players appreciate the time we hope you invest into this small, but very meaningful addition to this timeless classic. I, and many many others look forward to seeing this wishful thinking become a reality. Thank you for your time, and money invested into remastering one of... no... Remastering THE BEST, timeless, and undeniably longest lived, most enjoyable RPG that many of us keep coming back to play time, and time again. A lot of us are grateful and excited to see the Diablo 2 community be brought back with a fiery passion.
